Predicting New Mexico matchup in Week 4

The Tigers have momentum on their side heading into a tune-up this weekend against the New Mexico Lobos.

LSU overcame a 13-0 first-half deficit to win its SEC opener against Mississippi State 31-16, and this team looks to have come a long way in the two weeks since its disappointing loss to Florida State in the opener.

Up next in SEC play is a very winnable game, albeit on the road, against Auburn on Oct. 1. After that is a crucial matchup against Tennessee.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. First, the Tigers need to take care of business against a New Mexico team that looks to be improved this fall. Third-year coach Danny Gonzales’ team is 2-1 and already just one victory away from matching last season’s win total.

Last week, LSU faced a defense helmed by Zach Arnett, a member of the Rocky Long coaching tree. Long — a former successful head coach at San Diego State — is currently the Lobos’ defensive coordinator.

The Tigers are heavy favorites this weekend, but anything can happen when the toe meets the rubber. Here’s how our staff sees this one playing out.
