Starting Left Tackle Helps Offense Score Seven Touchdowns And 49 Points While Rushing For 354 Yards

BERKELEY – Ben Coleman was named the Pac-12 Offensive Lineman of the Week on Monday for his performance in helping Cal’s offense score seven touchdowns and 49 points while rushing for 354 yards including rushing totals of 274 yards and three touchdowns by Pac-12 Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week Jaydn Ott in a 49-31 win over Arizona on Saturday at FTX Field at California Memorial Stadium on Saturday. Coleman won the honor for the second time in his career after having been previously selected for his performance in a 41-11 win at Stanford on Nov. 20, 2021.

Ben Coleman, OL, 6-4, 330, R-Fr., 4th Season At Cal (Murrieta, CA/Linfield Christian HS)

— Helped Cal’s offense score seven touchdowns against Arizona that were its most since also picking up seven against Texas on Sept. 17, 2016, while its 49 points scored were the most since a 49-7 victory at Oregon State on Oct. 20, 2018, its’ 354 yards the most since rushing for 381 against Washington on Nov. 15, 2003, and its 599 yards of total offense the most since picking up 636 at Stanford on Nov. 20, 2021

— Played all 70 snaps at left tackle against Arizona and was the only Cal offensive lineman to start at the same position as the previous contest at Notre Dame

— Had three pancake blocks against Arizona and his 93% grade from the Cal coaches was the highest on the offensive line

— The offensive line did not allow a sack and gave up only 2.0 tackles for loss (-4 yards) against Arizona

— Played a key role in helping Jaydn Ott rewrite much of Cal’s record book with Ott’s performance Saturday against Arizona when he rushed for 274 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries

— Ott’s 274 yards rushing against Arizona are the most in an FBS game since LSU’s Tyrion Davis-Price had 287 against Florida on Oct. 16, 2021, the most by an FBS freshman since Maryland redshirt freshman Anthony McFarland had 298 against Ohio State on Nov. 17, 2018, and the most by an FBS true freshman…
