Blake Corum (Sept. 27)
Doak Walker National Running Back of the Week — In its first season presenting a National Running Back of the Week honor, the Doak Walker Award committee recognized running back Blake Corum with the distinction. It marks his third honor, national or conference, following his performance against Maryland which saw him achieve new career-highs in rushes (30) and yards (243). Corum reached the seventh-best single-game rushing total in program history and the fourth-best against any Big Ten opponent. Corum’s 11 runs of 15-plus yards lead all FBS backs, and he had five such runs against Maryland. It was the most yards by a U-M ball carrier since Denard Robinson in 2010 (258 vs. Notre Dame). Corum secured the honor over fellow Week 3 candidates Devon Achane (Texas A&M), Keyon Mozee (Miami (Ohio)), and Jadyn Ott (Cal). The Doak Walker Award has been awarded to the nation’s top running back since 1990. Semifinalists for the award will be named on Nov. 22, and three finalists will be named a week later.
