NFL: Houston Texans at Chicago Bears

Century mark
Carolina running back Christian McCaffrey earned his second 100-yard rushing performance of the season, totaling 108 in 25 carries to lead the Panthers to their first victory, a 22-14 triumph over the visiting New Orleans Saints. McCaffrey is tied for fifth in the NFL in rushing yardage with 243 in three games. 

Henry Anderson helped the Panthers’ cause by blocking a 30-yard Wil Lutz field-goal attempt near the end of the second quarter. It was his fifth career blocked kick, which ranks him third among active players. Anderson also had two tackles in the game. For New Orleans, Andrus Peat played 46 percent of the Saints’ offensive snaps at guard before leaving with a concussion, and cornerback Paulson Adebo made his season debut, making one solo tackle and playing 15 percent of the Saints’ defensive snaps.

Season highs

Houston’s Davis Mills had season highs in yards (245) and completion percentage (62.5) while connecting on 20 of 32 passes in a 23-20 loss to the visiting Chicago Bears. Mills also had a 4-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jordan Akins in the first quarter. 

Impenetrable

Indianapolis starting inside linebacker Bobby Okereke had seven tackles, including four solo, in the Colts’ 20-17 upset of Kansas City. He also helped stifle a fake field-goal attempt by the Chiefs with perfect coverage on the intended receiver. For the Chiefs, starting safety Justin Reid had seven tackles, including three solo, and two quarterback hits.

Untouchable

New England punter Jake Bailey had punts of 56 and 44 yards for a 50.0 average in the Patriots’ 37-26 loss to the visiting Baltimore Ravens. Bailey had four touchbacks in five kickoffs and made a tackle. 

Perfect

Atlanta center Drew Dalman played on every offensive snap and did not allow a quarterback pressure in the Falcons’ 27-23 victory at Seattle. Seahawks’ tight end Colby Parkinson had two receptions for 44 yards.

  • Dallas receiver Simi Fehoko had one reception for 12 yards in the Cowboys’ 23-16 Monday Night loss at the New York Giants. 
  • Houston rookie defensive tackle Thomas Booker played a career-high 18 defensive snaps, and four special teams snaps, in the Texans’ loss to Chicago.
