Hendon Hooker among six named to the Maxwell Award weekly honor roll

It was a big week for Tennessee, who got an impressive win over Florida that helped solidify the Volunteers as a viable SEC contender. And leading the way for Tennessee was Hendon Hooker.

Putting together a game where he simply sparkled. Hendon was named the The Maxwell Award Player of the Week for his outstanding performance in sparking the home win for Tennessee.

Last week, Oregon quarterback Bo Nix won the award for his sensational showing in a win over BYU. Nix accounted for five touchdowns in the Oregon win.

The Maxwell Football Club awards the Maxwell Award, annually given to the nation’s top college football player. They also hand out the Chuck Bednarik Award for the top defensive player in college football.

Every March, the club hosts an annual awards gala at the Harrah’s in Atlantic City, N.J.

QB Hendon Hooker, Tennessee

In a week where a number of quarterbacks had really strong efforts, Hooker was simply outstanding in being named the Maxwell Award’s Player of the Week. He was 22-of-28 passes for 349 yards with two passing touchdowns. He also had 112 yards rushing and a rushing touchdown as the Volunteers beat Florida.
