Auburn and Georgia will meet on the football field for the 127th time in history on Saturday afternoon in the rivalry game known as “The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry.”
The rivalry is tied for the second-most played rivalry in College Football’s Football Bowl Subdivision with the North Carolina-Virginia rivalry that is similarly named “The South’s Oldest Rivalry.” Those two rivalries have been played five fewer times than the Wisconsin-Minnesota rivalry.
Auburn and Georgia have played classic games over the years: the “Between the Hoses” game in 1986, the first-ever overtime game in 1996, and the “Prayer at Jordan-Hare” in 2013 are just several memorable games between these two SEC rivals.
However, the rivalry has been watered down recently due to the success of Georgia since the arrival of Kirby Smart in 2017. Since Smart took over his alma mater’s football program, Georgia has won four SEC East titles, one SEC championship, and one national title. The Bulldogs have also beaten Auburn in eight of the last ten games.
As the Tigers and Bulldogs prepare for Saturday’s game in Athens, here is a look back at the last ten games in the series:

The Bulldogs’ best team in several years posted 451 yards of offense in their dominating effort over Auburn. Georgia’s Stetson Bennett and Zamir White combined to score four touchdowns, while Auburn’s Tank Bigsby scored Auburn’s only touchdown.

Due to the COVID-altered schedule, this meeting was played in front of just 20,524 spectators. Stetson Bennett passed for 240 yards, with 147 of those going to receiver Kearis Jackson in Georgia’s win in Athens. This was also the first time since 1930 that these two programs played each other in a regular-season game outside of the month of September.
