SOUTHAMPTON, Pa. – A day after being named the ACC Linebacker of the Week for his standout performance in NC State’s comeback win over Florida State, Drake Thomas was also tabbed the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week on Tuesday morning.
Thomas, a junior from Wake Forest, North Carolina, put together one of his best performances in a Wolfpack uniform Saturday, finishing the contest with 14 tackles (seven solo stops), two tackles for loss, two pass breakups and a quarterback pressure. His 14 tackles ranked just one shy of a career-high set at Louisville this past season.
Thomas and the Pack defense limited Florida State’s offense to just 93 yards in the second half. The Seminoles entered the contest averaging 34.2 points per game and 17.2 points in the second half, but NC State allowed just 17 points and shut out Florida State in the second half.
Thomas, a two-time recipient of the Bednarik Award Player of the Week in 2021, was named to the award’s preseason watch list in August. The Chuck Bednarik Award is given out annually to the best defensive player in college football.
