College Sports Communicators (formerly College Sports Information Directors of America [CoSIDA]) in association with The Associated Press (AP) and the Fiesta Bowl Organization, today named UCLA outside linebacker Laiatu Latu to the Watch List for the 2022 Comeback Player of the Year Award.

Latu, who sat out the past two college football seasons after playing as a true freshman at the University of Washington in 2019, leads UCLA with 6.5 sacks this season and ranks second in the nation in sacks per game (1.08). The Sacramento native ranks 14th nationally and leads the Pac-12 Conference with a forced fumbles per game average of 0.33 this season. Latu established a new career-best with 3.0 sacks in UCLA’s win at Colorado earlier this season. He also leads the Bruins in tackles for loss with 7.0.

The Comeback Player of the Year Award recognizes college football student-athletes from all divisions of college football for overcoming injury, illness, or other circumstances.  At the conclusion of each season, in a vote by a panel of writers, editors, and sports information directors, three college football student-athletes will be honored as Comeback Player of the Year Award winners at the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl.
