Matthew Cindric has been selected as one of 12 semifinalists nationally for the Wuerffel Trophy.


2022 Redshirt Senior Keeps Racking Up Honors Despite Season-Ending Injury

ATLANTA – Matthew Cindric was one of 12 players across the nation to be named a semifinalist for the 2022 Wuerffel Trophy on Tuesday. Known as “College Football’s Premier Award for Community Service”, the Wuerffel Trophy is named after Danny Wuerffel, 1996 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback from Florida. The Wuerffel Trophy exists to honor college football players who serve others, celebrate their positive impact on society, and inspire greater service in the world.

Cindric was selected despite suffering a season-ending injury at Colorado on October 15.

Finalists for the award will be announced on November 29 with the formal announcement of the 2022 recipient to be made December 8 and the presentation of the honor to occur on Feb. 24, 2023, at the 54th All Sports Association Award Banquet in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.

— Gave Ted Talk on leadership as a participant in Cal’s Cameron Institute Speaker Series

— Worked with UpCycle and Cal’s Cameron Institute to lead a clothing drive

— Three-year youth coach for Next Level Flag Football on the Cal campus

— Member of the Cal Football Team Leadership Council (2019 – Current)

— Student Director of Cal’s Haas School of Business Student-Athlete Mentorship Program that helps student-athletes through the rigorous application process to the prestigious business school

 

Academics

— Graduated from Cal in business administration in May of 2022 with a 3.77 GPA and is currently enrolled in master’s of education program with an intersection of sports in education
