A recently released report has confirmed that representatives of Nebraska interim head football coach Mickey Joseph have had contact with representatives of another Power Five head-coaching job. Sean Callahan of HuskerOnline reports that there has been some contact between a law firm out of Atlanta representing Joseph and an entity connected to the head coaching position at Arizona State University.
ASU fired their head coach Herm Edwards on September 18, just three games into his fifth season. Edwards, who just signed as an ESPN college football and NFL analyst, left Tempe with a record of 26-20 overall and 17-14 in the PAC-12. Edwards also left a host of off-the-field issues and his wake, including an NCAA investigation over what is described as “alleged recruiting violations.“
It should be no surprise that Joseph’s name would be thrown around other coaching searches across the country. Since assuming the interim head coaching tag at Nebraska on September 11, Joseph has continued to impress those around college football who believe the longtime assistant may finally be ready for a full-time head coaching job.
Of course, Joseph made it very clear in a profile in Sports Illustrated that he would like to remain at Nebraska as the full-time head coach. However, it’s still unknown what he needs to accomplish on the field to have his interim tag removed.
There are currently eight Division I FBS college football positions that are currently open. Our own Patrick Conn recently ranked every open Power Five job, and you can find that list here. Scroll below and let u know what you think.
