No. 6 Alabama Football Falls in Overtime at No. 10 LSU, 32-31


BATON ROUGE, La. – The No. 6/6/6 Alabama football team fell in overtime at No. 10/15/17 LSU, 32-31, Saturday night in front of a sold-out crowd at Tiger Stadium. The Crimson Tide scored on its first drive of the extra period to take the lead; however, the Tigers scored on their ensuing possession and won the game when it converted the two-point attempt.

Quarterback Bryce Young finished 25-of-51 for 328 yards through the air to lead the Tide’s offense. Running back Jahmyr Gibbs led Alabama in rushing (15 rushes, 99 yards) and added eight receptions for 64 yards. Ja’Corey Brooks caught seven passes for a team-leading 97 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, the Tide was led by DeMarcco Hellams’ 12 tackles which included nine solo stops, while Brian Branch finished with nine stops, a quarterback hurry and a pass break-up.            

Notes

  • It marked the first overtime game for Alabama since defeating Auburn a year ago, 24-22, in four overtimes
  • The last time UA dropped an overtime decision occurred 11 years ago to the day when the Tide fell 9-6 in a home decision to LSU on Nov. 5, 2011
  • Nick Saban fell to 4-3 in overtime contests as the Alabama head coach
  • Saturday’s loss marks the second loss for the Tide this season, with both defeats coming on the game’s final play (field goal at Tennessee)
  • Alabama did not score a point in the first quarter for the first time this season, marking the first time since the 2022 SEC Championship game vs. Georgia that the Crimson Tide failed to score in the opening stanza
  • The two teams combined for 23 points across the opening three quarters and 40 total points in the fourth quarter and overtime
  • The Tide’s opening drive in the second half took 15 plays (55 yards) making it UA’s longest drive of the year in terms of number of plays
  • With the loss, Alabama falls to 13-6 (.684) in games following a bye under head coach Nick Saban
