Texas A&M hasn’t quite reached the state of crisis mode just yet, but let me tell you, they’re right on the periphery heading into their Week 11 matchup with the Auburn Tigers after falling 41-24 against the visiting Florida Gators, dropping their 5th straight game for the first time since the 1980 season. The Auburn Tigers on the other hand are going through their own roller coaster of a season after the firing of their head coach Bryan Harsin on Oct. 31st.
The Aggies record of 3-6, (1-5 conf) and overall dismal play on the field had their first significant repercussion on Monday, as 2023 5-Star linebacker Anthony Hill, who committed to the program in late July, de-committed and will visit Texas this weekend as they take on TCU.
Also on Monday, head coach Jimbo Fisher spoke to the media to reflect on their loss to Florida, and answer questions regarding the roster, especially the injury report after six players missed Saturday’s game due to the flu virus spreading through the locker room during the week prior.
The biggest availability question that needed answering surrounded quarterback Conner Weigman’s status, as the freshman signal caller was one of the six players affected by the flu, and ultimately missed Saturday’s game. As of Monday, Fisher expected Weigman to practice this week, and be the starting quarterback on Saturday against Auburn if healthy.
In one of the more interesting quotes from Fisher, regarding Texas A&M’s injury woes this season, the Aggies head coach stated,
“When you break bones, that’s not strength and conditioning. When your knee goes, that’s not strength and conditioning… We have an excellent strength and conditioning program.”
He went on to note that their recent season-ending injuries are simply a product of “bad luck”. Well, that’s one way to put it.
