New Haven, CT – UNC redshirt freshman QB Drake Maye was named the Walter Camp Football Foundation National Offensive Player of the Week, the Foundation announced on Sunday. Maye threw for 448 yards and three TDs in the 36-34 victory at Wake Forest that clinched the ACC Coastal Division title, while rushing for another 71 yards and a TD. Maye’s 448 passing yards are a career high, the fourth-most in a game in UNC history, and the most ever in Truist Field (Wake Forest) history. It was the fifth game that Maye led the Tar Heels in rushing yards as well. His 519 total yards are a career high and rank third on UNC’s single-game chart.
Maye currently leads the nation in passing touchdowns (34), total offense (399.6), ranks second in passing yards per game (341.2) and third in passing efficiency (178.9). He is tied for first nationally with 39 total touchdowns (34 pass, 5 rush) and 236 points accounted for in 2022. The Wake Forest game was Maye’s national-leading sixth second-half comeback of the season.
UNC is currently 9-1 (6-0 ACC) and is preparing to host Georgia Tech on Saturday, Nov. 19. The game is scheduled to kick off at 5:30 p.m. and will air on ESPN 2. A limited number of tickets are still available and you can purchase yours by clicking HERE.
