Bills head coach Sean McDermott in the second half against the Vikings.
The first half was solid by the Bills coaching staff. The team executed consistency in all phases of the game. Offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey promoted an efficient passing attack with Allen getting the ball out quickly to his receivers. The defense kept things under control.
What happened after halftime was a monstrosity. Maybe it was the hubris of the staff, but they completely missed the mark in the second half.
Once again, Allen resorted to playing sandlot ball. The quick passing was largely ignored. The run game was abandoned. The help that the decimated secondary needed was not to be found.
The decision-making was marked with arrogance. Instead of kicking a close field goal to put the Bills up by 13, the Bills attempted a fourth-down conversion. The ball was picked off in the end zone by the Vikings corner Patrick Peterson.
The execution on the quarterback dive was horrendous. Allen fumbled the snap, the offensive line did not get any push, and Minnesota took the lead on a defensive touchdown. On the game’s final drive, Buffalo had more time to score. Instead, a forced pass ended the game.
The group seemed to have no answers for Minnesota, ultimately letting the Vikings get back into the contest.
