Maye, Downs Earn ACC Weekly Honors Again


GREENSBORO, N.C. – Josh Downs and Drake Maye have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Football Players of the Week their outstanding performances in last weekend’s games for the second week in a row. The selections are determined by a vote of a select media panel.

Maye earns his sixth QB of the week award this fall, while Downs is named the top receiver for the second time in 2022 and the fifth time in the last two seasons.

 

QUARTERBACK – Drake Maye, North Carolina, QB, Huntersville, N.C.

Maye threw for 448 yards and three TDs in the 36-34 victory at Wake Forest that clinched the ACC Coastal Division title, while rushing for another 71 yards and a TD. Maye’s 448 passing yards are a career high, the fourth-most in a game in UNC history, and the most ever in Truist Field (Wake Forest) history. It was the fifth game that Maye led the Tar Heels in rushing yards as well. His 519 total yards are a career high and rank third on UNC’s single-game chart.

RECEIVER – Josh Downs, North Carolina, WR, Suwanee, Ga.

Downs caught 11 passes for 154 yards and three touchdowns in the win at Wake Forest. He caught scoring tosses of 12, seven and 20 yards with a long cach of 43 yards on the day.
