DURHAM – Redshirt junior punter Porter Wilson was named to the Ray Guy Award “Ray’s 8” list following week 11 of play, the award announced Monday.

The “Ray’s 8” list recognizes four collegiate punters each week. From the group of four, fans determine which punter should be named Punter of the Week by voting on the Ray Guy Award website.

Wilson, a native of Fairlawn, Ohio, booted three punts for a total of 136 yards, an average of 45.33 yards per punt, in Duke’s 24-7 win over Virginia Tech on Saturday. He kicked a 58-yard punt and dropped one inside the 20.

Wilson was tabbed to the award’s preseason watch list heading into the 2022 season.

About the Ray Guy Award
The Augusta Sports Council created the Ray Guy Award in 2000 to honor Thompson, Georgia native and College and Pro Football Hall of Fame Inductee, Ray Guy. Among the statistics used to identify the winner is net punting average, number of times punt is downed or kicked out of bounds inside the opponents 20-yard line, total yardage punted, average returned yardage and percentage of punts not returned with particular emphasis on net punting average. The winner must display team leadership, self-discipline and have a positive impact on the team’s success.
