Five reasons why Rutgers will beat Penn State

Penn State takes on Rutgers this week in what could be an interesting matchup. The Nittany Lions blew out Rutgers last season after quarterback Christian Veilleux entered the game with a jaw-dropping performance.

Sean Clifford has had a productive last two games against Indiana and Maryland, but we have also seen games where he struggles with his decision-making.

Penn State has some key players to keep an eye on for this game. One player to watch is linebacker Curtis Jacobs. He hasn’t necessarily had the best season, and many people expected him to make a leap. However, with just three games left of the season, including the bowl game, this would be a good opportunity for Jacobs to finish his 2022 season off strong.

Will Penn State win this game though? I don’t think so. This is the Rutgers show on Saturday.

Here are the top five reasons why Penn State will lose to Rutgers

Quarterback Play

Sean Clifford has played well the past two weeks against Indiana and Maryland. However, we have seen him struggle against bad opponents. Northwestern is a good example of that. Penn State only won 17-7, and Clifford posted a 33.3 quarterback rating. That is the biggest question. Will Clifford show up as has the past two weeks? Or will it be like Northwestern? We will find out on Saturday.

Penn State hasn’t had a challenge since Ohio State

Penn State has not played a challenging opponent since Ohio State. They have played really well the last two weeks. You could certainly argue the Nittany Lions had control for much of that game until they collapsed in the fourth quarter. Sure, Rutgers isn’t Ohio State. But this could certainly be a game where Penn State comes in overconfident.
