Iowa football faces its biggest game of the season Saturday on the road in Minnesota. The stakes are extremely high in the battle for Floyd this year. The Hawkeyes are currently in a four-way tie for first place in the Big Ten West Division, sharing a spot with their upcoming opponents.

The Golden Gophers are 7-3, with a 4-3 conference record after their recent 31-3 win over Northwestern. This game will be critical in the race for the division title.

Iowa enters the game on a hot streak, winning their last three matchups. They find themselves in the thick of the division chase, despite feeling out of it just a few weeks ago. They’ve looked more akin to the team promised before the season, defeating both Purdue and Wisconsin by more than two scores.

Minnesota also enters Saturday’s game on a three game win streak, fresh off wins against Rutgers, Nebraska, and Northwestern. They faced a similar situation as Iowa, overcoming a midseason skid to enter their name back in the West division hat.

Gophers coach P.J. Fleck is looking to finally change his fortunes against Kirk Ferentz and finally earn his first victory against Iowa. He is currently 0-5 against Ferentz, the Gophers themselves winless in their last seven matchups.

It will be a cold, windy affair in Minneapolis. Temperatures will hover around the low tens, with wind speeds projected to reach as high as 17 miles per hour. This is the epitome of late-season Big Ten football weather. The Gophers are currently 5-1 on the season at home.
