New England Patriots center David Andrews left Sunday’s game against the New York Jets with a concussion. He played 15 snaps before being helped off the field to the locker room.
It appears as though the injury could potentially end Andrews’ season, and that would be a big blow for a Patriots offensive line that is currently struggling. Backup center James Ferentz took Andrews’ place on Sunday.
Ferentz has familiarity with the offensive line. He has been with the Patriots since 2017 and has appeared in 712 total offensive snaps in five seasons. He appeared in a career-high 69 percent of the offensive snaps in 2021 and has appeared and 66 percent of the snaps in 2022.
Nevertheless, he did not take Andrews’ loss lightly and explained what he means to the organization.
“I’ve always said this about Dave: You lose someone like Dave, it’s not one guy filling in for Dave,” Ferentz said, per NESN’s Zack Cox. “It’s going to take all five of us. And that’s every day coming in the building. Dave sets the tempo even on the days we’re just meeting. Losing him would really hurt, but we’ve got a good room. I think everyone can do their part and carry the weight.”
The Patriots’ offensive line has struggled this season. They gave up a whopping six sacks to the Jets.
Losing Andrews would be another huge blow for a team that is firmly in the playoff hunt. This means players such as Ferentz will really have to step up and make an impact.
