Rattler Named Maxwell Award Player of the Week – University of South Carolina Athletics

University of South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler has been named the named Maxwell Award Player of the Week after leading the Gamecocks to a huge win over the fifth-ranked Tennessee Volunteers Saturday in Columbia, it was announced today.

In the 63-38 shootout, the 6-1, 215-pound junior from Phoenix, Ariz., went 30-37 on passes for 438 yards and six touchdown passes, while adding 16 rushing yards and 15 receiving yards. Rattler and the Gamecocks scoring 63 points are the most by an unranked team against an AP top-five opponent in the poll era.

Rattler was previously recognized as the Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Week, the CFPA National Performer of the Week, a Manning Award Star of the Week and the co-SEC Offensive Player of the Week.

Rattler and the Gamecocks (7-4, 4-4 SEC) will travel to the Upstate this week to face No. 7/8 Clemson (10-1, 8-0 ACC) in the annual Palmetto Bowl. Game time is set for noon ET and the contest will be televised nationally on ABC.
