UNC football vs. Clemson: Five things to watch

Finally, the time is almost here when we will see the 9-3 North Carolina Tar Heels battle the 10-2 Clemson Tigers for the ACC Championship.

What a season it has been for UNC; as they started the season as a team no one expected to be in the position to bring the ACC Championship back to Chapel Hill. They started the year outside the Associated Press Top 25 poll and, despite sustaining a solid record throughout, would have to fight tooth and nail to see its name on the rankings.

Once they finally did get in, they began to move up, even sniffing a scenario where the Tar Heels could have made the playoffs. However, that all came crashing down when UNC was on the receiving end of Georgia Tech’s 21-17 upset. To make matters worse, UNC followed up that loss the next week, losing to NC State 30-27 in double overtime.

Now UNC has a chance to right the wrongs from the last two games with a win over the historically dominant Clemson Tigers.

Before we get to Saturday’s ACC title game, we look at five things to know before you watch.

The battle of who cracks first is critical in this game. North Carolina brings their explosive offense, and Clemson has their NFL-ready defense. Whoever cracks more loses as the other walks out of Bank of America Stadium, the new kings of the ACC.

Clemson’s defense allows an average of 20.9 points per game, the 20th-best in collegiate football. Meanwhile, North Carolina’s offense averages 37.1 points per game, ranking 15th in the nation. When teams score, Clemson loses, running out of steam…
