DURHAM – Freshman defensive back Chandler Rivers was honored Tuesday as a 2022 Freshman Honorable Mention All-American by College Football News.
Rivers, a 5-10, 182-pound native of Beaumont, Texas, appeared in all 12 games this season, making five starts for the Blue Devils at cornerback. He finished the regular season sixth on the team with 46 tackles and added 1.0 tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, two quarterback pressures and six pass breakups during his rookie year. In addition, he recorded a season-best seven tackles against North Carolina on Oct. 15 and registered a blocked punt at Pittsburgh on Sept. 19.
Duke is back in action Wednesday, Dec. 28, at 2 p.m. when it faces UCF in the Military Bowl at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on the campus of the U.S. Naval Academy.
