Nebraska great Wiegert inducted into College Football Hall of Fame

Nebraska great Zach Wiegert was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame on Tuesday night in Las Vegas. Wiegert is the 20th Husker to be inducted into the Hall, and Nebraska is only one of 12 programs nationally with 20 or more players. He’s the eighth Cornhusker to be inducted since 2006. The most recent member of the Hall was Eric Crouch back in 2020.

Wiegert was a 1994 National Championship team member and a unanimous first-team All-American. He was part of an offensive line that averaged 340 rushing yards a game, and Wiegert led the unit with 113 pancake blocks. He also won the Outland Award in ’94 as the “Best Interior Lineman in College Football.”  The guard would be taken in the second round of the 1995 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams. He would spend 12 years in professional football and would play for St. Louis, Jacksonville, and Houston.
