TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama football’s Will Anderson Jr. and Kool-Aid McKinstry earned All-America recognition from the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), the organization announced on Friday.
Anderson Jr. earned first-team recognition at linebacker while McKinstry was tabbed as a second-teamer at punt returner. The first-team honors are the second in as many days for Anderson Jr., with the standout defender also earning first-team recognition from the Walter Camp Football Foundation on Thursday night.
First Team All-American
Will Anderson Jr., Linebacker
- An elite defender who was selected as the nation’s top defensive player
- Recorded 51 tackles, including 17 for loss (-72 yards) and 10 sacks (-54 yards), during his junior season
- Enters bowl season ranked sixth nationally in sacks and seventh in tackles for loss while leading the SEC in both categories
- Also contributed a team-high 12 quarterback hurries to go with one pass breakup, a blocked field goal and a 25-yard pick-six
Second Team All-American
Kool-Aid McKinstry, Returner
- One of the top punt returners in the country who is a big-play threat every time he has the ball
- Leads the SEC in punt return yards with 317, a total that is second nationally
- Paces the conference and ranks second in Division I for punt return average at 15.8 yards per return
- Also a standout defender at corner, leading UA in pass breakups (12) to go with 34 tackles, including two for loss (-16 yards) and one sack (-12 yards)
