Justin Fields, David Montgomery set to start against Eagles

With Claypool out, Harry questionable and Darnell Mooney on IR, the Bears may be thin at receiver against Philadelphia. Eberflus sees Sunday as an opportunity for other playmakers to emerge, including rookie Velus Jones Jr. Eberflus said Jones has been improving in his alignment, assignment and routes, has been learning the playbook and is “excited about where he’s going to go for the next four weeks.”

“I think we want to get all of those guys involved, and Velus is no different than the rest of them,” Eberflus said. “So I’m sure that, you know, when you have a receiver go down, you know we’ve been carrying six anyway. Typically, you only carry five. But we’ll see what we’re going to do this week. But yeah, it will definitely give some more opportunities for others.”

Right tackle Larry Borom (knee) is doubtful after practicing in a limited capacity Thursday and Friday. Eberflus said the plan is to continue rotating Riley Reiff and Alex Leatherwood at right tackle. Leatherwood impressed Eberflus in his Bears debut against the Packers, playing 10 snaps while rotating in for Reiff.

“Yeah, we’re gonna do a little rotation there,” Eberflus said. “I’ll meet with those guys later today just to figure out what the rotation is. We’ll do a little substitution review with each coach and we’ll get that figured out, but yeah our plan is to do a little bit of that, for sure.”
