DURHAM – Graduate student safety Darius Joiner was named to the College Sports Communicators 2022 Academic All-America® Second Team.
Joiner is the 22nd Blue Devil in program history to earn Academic All-America honors and the first since current teammate Jackson Hubbard earned the honor in 2021. He joins Clemson’s Will Shipley as the ACC’s lone representatives on the All-America list.
Joiner, a 6-2, 200-pound Roanoke, Ala., native ranks second on the team in tackles with 90 and has 7.0 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, two interceptions, four pass breakups, four quarterback pressures and one forced fumble. In addition, the third team All-ACC selection has tallied three double digit tackle games this season, including a 14-tackle performance at Northwestern. He holds a Pro Football Focus grade of 83.5 this season, which ranks 10th nationally among safeties.
Joiner graduated from Jacksonville State in May 2021, with a degree in biology and a minor in chemistry. He is currently pursuing a master’s in management studies from Duke’s Fuqua School of Business
