Multiple reports on Monday night state that Nebraska quarterback Casey Thompson will return to the Cornhuskers for 2023. Thompson will be a sixth-year senior next season, and according to On3 and 247Sports recently had shoulder surgery that will keep him out of the spring game.
In 2022 Thompson threw for 2,407 yards, 17 TDs & 10 INTs with a 63% completion rate. He came to Nebraska via the transfer portal after spending the three previous seasons at Texas.
The new reports also state that Thompson has already met with new head coach Matt Rhule and offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield and is in the process of studying Satterfield’s playbook. The former South Carolina OC is known for a pro-style offense that relies on a physical running game and a passing that aggressively pushes the ball the down the field.
The Oklahoma City native won’t be alone in the quarterback room in 2023, as Nebraska currently has six scholarship signal callers. Thompson is joined by Chubba Purdy, Logan Smothers, Richard Torres, Heinrich Haarberg and new Georgia Tech transfer Jeff Sims.
