Of course, one of the teams listed by the outlet was the Nebraska Cornhuskers. CBS was high on hiring Matt Rhule as the new head coach but ultimately believes that the Big Ten West is the biggest ally the Huskers have to a possible postseason invitation.
Several of the top teams in the West have flaws heading into next season. Wisconsin will be bringing in an entirely new coaching staff and offense, Illinois, while finishing 8-5, lost four of its last five games and even division champion Purdue saw its head coach leave after the Big Ten Championship game for Louisville.
This list isn’t saying that Nebraska will be in the college football playoff. It’s simply saying that if you had to look for an outlier with a probable path, the Cornhuskers would fall under that same umbrella that TCU did before last season.
