Chauncey Golston potential X-factor in NFL playoffs

A bit under the radar his first two seasons in the NFL, Chauncey Golston appears to be coming into his own with the Dallas Cowboys as of lately. The former Iowa Hawkeyes’ defensive lineman finds himself among those that could be a game-changer in the NFC Wild Card matchup of the Dallas Cowboys versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Due to his efficiency and versatility across the defensive front from playing defensive end to sliding to the interior, he has earned himself recognition as a defender forgotten amongst the Cowboys’ star power that could have a large part in their Wild Card matchup.

Simply put, Golston put together the best performance of his career … and he did it playing an unfamiliar role along the interior.

At 6-foot-5 and 268 pounds, Golston is undersized for an interior defender, but his quickness caused headaches for Washington’s OL.  When all was said and done, he compiled a game-high 11 tackles and six run stops. He even gobbled up Jonathan Williams for a tackle for loss on a 3rd and 1 with Dallas trailing by a touchdown.

Whatever the case, Golston should have an increased role to play against the Buccaneers. If the Cowboys can slow down Leonard Fournette and Rachaad White in the trenches, and make Tampa Bay’s offense one-dimensional, that’ll put Dallas in a great position to pick up a road playoff win in a hostile atmosphere. – Trotta, The Landy Hat

Golston is playing well right now and with Dallas going to take on Tom Brady, his ability to clog up the run game could open the door for the likes of Micah Parsons & Co.

On the season, Golston has 22 tackles, a sack, and a pass deflection in his very limited time but is starting to heat up at the exact right time. This performance should come as no shock to anyone who has followed Golston, as his time at Iowa proved this.
