TJ Vernieri Joins New Orleans Breakers as TE Coach

The USFL is now less than three months away from kicking off their second season. Earlier today it was announced that Ray Horton would be taking over the Pittsburgh Maulers, but it looks like there’s some more coaching news to report.

TJ Vernieri just announced on Twitter that he will be joining the New Orleans Breakers as Tight Ends coach.

During the offseason the Breakers saw Larry Fedora exit as head coach. Since then it’s been revealed that John Defilippo will be coming in to fill his role. Now, the team has secured another major piece to their coaching staff.

Vernieri most recently served as Running Backs coach for the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL. Ultimately he spent the last two seasons with the organization, starting out as an Offensive Assistant in 2021.

Prior to that he was the Wide Receivers coach for Lycoming College from 2019-20.

This is another young hire for the league, Vernieri played for the University of Connecticut and made the American Athletic Conference all-academic team in both 2016 and 2017.

It’s wise to remember that the USFL is not just an opportunity for players, but for coaches and other positions as well. In my opinion, I think this is a great hire for the league and something all Breakers fans should be excited about.
