Rutgers NIL fundraising reaches an important moment

Late last week, the Knights of the Raritan extended their fundraiser drive as they near their goal of $1 million raised for Rutgers athletes.

The Knights of the Raritan (KTR) is a Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) collective. The group has been fundraising for the better part of a month to raise funds for Rutgers student-athletes in the ever increasing world of college athletics.

The NIL collective is independent of Rutgers and supports the university’s athletes. Last week, it announced an extension of their matching fundraiser as donations continue to come in for the collective.

In December, KTR announced the launch of a fundraising initiative, seeking donors with a match of up to $500,000. Several anonymous donors agreed to match those funds, giving the potential for KTR to reach up to $1 million in NIL money.

“Thanks to our match donors we’re able to extend the campaign through the end of the month,” said Jon Newman, president of KTR.

“They’ve seen how all of Rutgers Nation has stepped up. They also want to take advantage of recent playing and recruiting success to maximize their investment.”

Some involved in the fundraiser, such as Learn to Lead CEO Dave Anderson, have targeted their money specifically for one sport. Anderson has made multiple matching donations directed towards men’s basketball.

 

Last week, Rutgers football head coach Greg Schiano acknowledged the importance of NIL and the KTR efforts in this new landscape of college football.
