Could ex-Miami OC Josh Gattis be a Hawkeye target

Statistical look at what Cade McNamara brings

As other programs are being lauded for their assistant coaching hires, Iowa fans are still waiting on Brian Ferentz news.

The belief persists that it’s only a matter of time before Ferentz either finds a job somewhere else (likely in the NFL) or is reassigned to a position that doesn’t include the offensive coordinator responsibilities in Iowa City.

That hasn’t happened yet, so the rest of this is purely speculative. It’s obvious the Hawkeyes need changes, though. Incredibly, Iowa actually got worse from its 2021 marks of 99th nationally in scoring offense and 121st in total offense.

Iowa plummeted to 123rd in scoring offense, averaging just 17.7 points per game, and No. 130 in total offense, totaling a measly 251.6 yards per game.

So, while the job isn’t open yet, it feels like it’s only a matter of time and a domino or two away from the Hawkeyes going shopping. Could their next offensive coordinator have just hit the market?

The Miami Hurricanes fired offensive coordinator Josh Gattis after just one season. Now that Gattis is back on the market, he’s a legitimate name to watch in Iowa City. Here’s the reasons why and a little bit more about his background.

Remember those two key transfer arrivals from Michigan? Josh Gattis was Michigan’s offensive coordinator during the 2021 season when quarterback Cade McNamara and tight end Erick All won the Wolverines’ first of back-to-back Big Ten championships and made their first appearance in the College Football Playoffs. As you’ll see below, Gattis also has ties to Big Ten country that run deeper than just his three-year stint at Michigan.
