'Cuse Trio Selected for NFL Combine

A trio of Syracuse football players are headed to the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis at the end of the month, the league announced this week.

Matthew Bergeron, Sean Tucker and Garrett Williams will represent Syracuse at the event, which gives ‘Cuse the fifth-most invitees among ACC schools. The three headline a strong class, that also features Butkus Award semifinalist Mikel Jones, Andre Szmyt, the most accurate kicker in program history, and captains Chris Elmore and Aaron Bolinsky, among others expected to garner looks from professional squads.

The scouting combine takes place at Lucas Oil Stadium, beginning on Feb. 28. This year marks the third time in the last four seasons that the program has sent three-or-more participants to the combine.

Bergeron, currently rated sixth among offensive tackles in this year’s draft by Mel Kiper, is coming off a strong performance at the Senior Bowl last week. The All-ACC and AP All-ACC selection, he graded out as one of the top-15 pass blocking tackles in college football last season, according to Pro Football Focus.

Tucker shattered Syracuse’s single-season rushing record as a sophomore in 2021, before doubling down and becoming the first player in program history to post back-to-back seasons with 1,000+ rushing and 250+ receiving yards. A two-time All-ACC selection, he was also an All-American in 2021.

Williams had his redshirt sophomore season cut short due to injury after just six games, but still earned All-ACC honors this year, making him a three-time all-conference selection in his career. Despite the injury, he enters the draft as Kiper’s No. 8 ranked cornerback. He led the ACC in pass breakups in both 2020 and 2021.

In addition to the combine, Syracuse will host its Pro Day for all NFL hopefuls on March 20.

Syracuse football season tickets are available now and once again start at just $99, with no price increases from last season. The schedule has six quality home games in the JMA Wireless Dome, which featured sold out crowds in two of the final three home games last season. Existing season ticket holders can now renew their tickets on their MyCuse Account to be part of the electric atmosphere in the building once again. Prospective new season ticket holders can buy their 2023 tickets here. Fans interested in bringing a group (15+) to a game, can take advantage of discounted tickets and special in-game experiences here.
