DURHAM – Former Duke linebacker Shaka Heyward will represent the Blue Devil program this weekend at the NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.
The event, which will gather more than 600 NFL personnel, including head coaches, general managers, scouts and medical staff representing all 32 teams, begins Thursday and extends through Sunday. The schedule has Heyward participating in interviews with teams, psychological and medical testing and measurements before going through on-field workouts on Thursday.
Live television coverage will be provided by NFL Network beginning Thursday at 2 p.m. The linebacker sessions will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Heyward, a 6-3, 240-pound linebacker from Dacula, Ga., was a two-time All-ACC selection and earned the team’s defensive MVP honor in 2022. He played in 51 career games, making 41 starts, and compiled 340 tackles, 32.5 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, four interceptions, nine pass breakups, five fumble recoveries and 12 quarterback pressures. During his final season, Heyward finished second on team in tackles (94), pass breakups (6) and fumble recoveries (2), while tied for the team lead in interceptions (2). He concluded his Duke career tied for eighth in program history in fumble recoveries (5), 12th in tackles for loss (32.5), 13th in tackles (340), and tied for 14th in sacks (11.5).
Heyward will return to Durham later this month to participate in Duke’s annual Pro Day, which is set for Monday, March 27.
