Tracking all of Kansas City Chiefs’ moves

The Chiefs get their first free agent, signing Jaguars RT Jawaan Taylor on a four-year deal. This immediately upgrades the position vacated by Andrew Wylie and hints that the draft might be where the team finds their left tackle, but there’s also the possibility that. . .

While he doesn’t have a ton of experience as a professional at the left tackle position, new reports indicate that the Chiefs could play Taylor at the left tackle spot moving forward. We’ll see what happens in the draft, but this at least provides Kansas City with some flexibility moving forward.

Nothing too fancy in Jawaan Taylor’s contract, but his low cap number for 2023 provides the Chiefs with the flexibility to continue to be active in free agency. His performance will determine how things play out in future years, but Kansas City can realistically move on after two years without much detrimental impact on the salary cap.

The Chiefs brought back one of their own on Monday, getting a deal done with restricted free agent DT Tershawn Wharton before free agency officially opens. Wharton tore his ACL in Week 5 against the Raiders, so Kansas City opted to bring him back on a deal slightly lower than what he would have earned on the right-of-first-refusal tender.
