Giants sign WR Parris Campbell; 5 things to know

Daniel Jones, who recently signed a new four-year contract, will throw to a mix of old and new targets this season. While the Giants brought back Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton, the team also added Parris Campbell to the wide receiver room in the first week of free agency.

Here are five things to know about him:

1. Originally a second-round draft pick by Indianapolis in 2019, Campbell played in 32 games with 24 starts for the Colts, recording 97 receptions for 983 yards and five touchdowns. Campbell is coming off his most productive season yet. He played all 17 games and started 16 times after injuries limited him to just 15 games and eight starts in his first three seasons combined. In 2022, he caught 63 passes for 623 yards and three touchdowns in addition to carrying the ball five times for 58 yards (long of 28 yards).

“My career is what it was,” Campbell said. “It was tough, very tough those first three years. Being able to bounce back from each and every injury that I had, I really learned a lot about myself. Just given the history of my career, that’s all I ever wanted to do. Being able to do that, I was blessed, grateful. The injuries that I had, there were things that were just freak accidents. You couldn’t really draw it up. They weren’t avoidable to me. They were things that happened and just had some bad luck. Like I said, was able to play all 17 last year, so I was extremely blessed.”

2. In Week 17, Campbell had a season-long 49-yard reception against the Giants. It was the second-longest of his career (he had a 51-yard touchdown against Houston in 2021).

“It definitely was not as exciting as it was for the Giants fans at that time,” the former Colt said of last season’s matchup when the Giants clinched a playoff spot. “It was rough. Obviously, in Indy last year, it was a tough season. But we fought our way through it. Speaking specifically on that day, I was on the sideline just watching Daniel [Jones] run up and down the sideline going crazy. I forgot how many yards he rushed for, but every time I looked up at the screen, he was running for like 20 yards. Just really…
