The moment we’ve all been waiting for is here: USFL season two. The Memphis Showboats hosted the Philadelphia Stars to kick things off, as Memphis makes their modern USFL debut.
Bart Andrus’ Stars are ready to run it back. This team made it to the Championship last season, but fell just short as Case Cookus got injured. With a lot of key pieces back, this group is in a position to make major noise this season.

On the other hand, the Memphis Showboats are a new franchise – but, in all practicality, the same team as the 4-6 Tampa Bay Bandits. This time, Brady White will serve as the starting quarterback, looking to bring pro football back to a city that’s meant a lot to his career so far.
Let’s take a look at what happened, as it was an entertaining showdown from start to finish.
First Quarter
To begin the game, Memphis received the football. Derrick Dillon had an excellent return, setting up the team with solid field position. The Showboats marched down the field, aided by a couple of penalties. However, Brady White threw a pick to Channing Stribling – last year’s INT leader – and the Stars took over.

Philadelphia’s offense picked up right where they left off. Case Cookus swiftly marched the team down the field, finding Corey Coleman on a 35 yard dime.

Then, on third and goal, it was easy pickings as Cookus dumped it off to Chris Rowland, who waltzed into the endzone. Just like that, it was a 7-0 ball game.
The first touchdown of the 2023 season belongs to the @USFLStars 👏🌟
