The USFL free agency shakeups just keep on rolling. The New Jersey Generals have signed DT Olive Sagapolu from the Pittsburgh Maulers, and also re-signed OL Micah Vanterpool on Tuesday.

DT Olive Sagapolu

In a blockbuster move, the Generals have snagged DT Olive Sagapolu. This comes as a bit of a shock, as many expected him to re-sign with the Pittsburgh Maulers.

Sagapolu came into the USFL in 2022, and served the Maulers with quality play. He finished the year with 28 total tackles, and two sacks, as Pittsburgh stumbled to a 1-9 record.

However, 2023 would tell a different story for the team. Olive posted 22 tackles, 3 TFL, and four sacks en route to a Championship appearance with the team.

In fact, Sagapolu played a key role in getting Pittsburgh to the Championship. During their playoff matchup against Michigan, he forced a fumble on Reggie Corbin which led to a touchdown. Then, in overtime, he broke up a pass that ultimately won the team the game.

Following his impressive USFL campaigns, Sagapolu landed with the Philadelphia Eagles during the NFL preseason. He was released by the team at the end of August.

Since Olive was a free agent, he has now decided to join the New Jersey Generals for the 2024 season. This is quite the change of scenery, and puts the Generals in an excellent position defensively. The team recently re-signed DT Toby Johnson, and DE Hercules Mataโ€™afa. That defensive line is looking scary.
