Game Storylines
• Pitt and Syracuse meet in Yankee Stadium to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first college football contest played in the historic venue.
• The Panthers and Orange squared off in the original Yankee Stadium on Oct. 20, 1923. Syracuse won that contest, 3-0.
• Pitt is 1-2 all-time in Yankee Stadium. In addition to the 1923 game, the Panthers defeated Army, 7-6, on Nov. 17, 1962, and lost to Northwestern in the Pinstripe Bowl, 31-24, on Dec. 28, 2016.
• Pitt and Syracuse were Big East members from 1993-2012 before entering the Atlantic Coast Conference together in 2013.
• Pitt and Syracuse have played every year since 1955. The annual series will continue as a “protected matchup” in the ACC’s new scheduling model set to begin in 2024.
• Pitt has won 18 of the past 21 games in the series. As the Panthers’ head coach, Pat Narduzzi is 7-1 against the Orange (his lone loss occurring in the Dome, 27-24, in 2017.)
• Since 2015, Pat Narduzzi has directed Pitt to 42 victories in ACC play, tied with Miami for the second-highest win total during that span. Pitt trails only Clemson (62).
• Since the 2020 season, Pitt is 10-2 during the month of November with the losses coming to No. 4 Clemson (2020) and No. 4 Florida State (this year).
