• DT Trey Botts, Colorado State – Pueblo
(2023 8th Rd Draft Pick)— Philadelphia Stars (@USFLStars) November 9, 2023
Trey Botts is a solid pickup for Philadelphia, as the team is looking to bolster their defensive line. DT Chris Nelson doesn’t appear to be returning, so the addition of Botts is much needed.
Botts played his collegiate ball at Colorado State-Pueblo, where he saw action for four years. With each and every year he continued to get better, playing a larger role for the team as he got older. In 2021, Trey posted 55 tackles and two sacks in what was a dominant year.
Then, in 2022, he won Defensive Player of the Year in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Botts was outstanding, finishing the year with 66 tackles and 5.5 sacks. His impressive performance garnered NFL interest, and rightfully so.

Trey Botts signed with the Baltimore Ravens on April 29th, and stuck with the team through preseason. Trey impressed, notching a sack and a TFL during the final preseason game. However, he was ultimately released on NFL cutdown day.
Now, Trey will look to kickstart his professional career in the USFL, with the Philadelphia Stars.
Final Thoughts
Trey Botts is more proof that the USFL college draft is doing what it’s supposed to do. Each organization has now signed a draft pick, with some teams signing quite a few.
