The Chicago Bears made a change to their running back room on Thursday afternoon. The team announced they have waived running back Darrynton Evans, which could mean another running back is set to return to the lineup.

Evans, who spent the 2022 season with the Bears, re-signed back in October after running backs Khalil Herbert and Roschon Johnson went out with injuries. The fourth-year running back played in five games, primarily splitting time with veteran D’Onta Foreman, totaling 105 yards on 30 carries and one touchdown. He also added seven receptions for 49 yards.
With the Bears waiving Evans, it likely signals Herbert’s return this weekend against the Detroit Lions. Herbert was placed on injured reserve after Week 5 and has missed the last five weeks with an ankle injury. He got in a full practice on Thursday, though, and can be activated off injured reserve over the next two weeks.
The Bears take on the Lions on Sunday at Ford Field, beginning at noon CT.
