The portal is back folks, and boy it is filling up quickly. Seriously, take a look at some of the names already in the portal ahead of bowl season. This is the new NCAA, with players changing teams a regular occurrence. The idea of staying at a school all four years is almost a thing of the past, and as a team, you have to adapt or die.
Iowa learned last year that the transfer portal is something they should embrace. They brought in some key additions, including linebacker Nick Jackson, over the offseason. Their top receivers were all transfers, and both starting quarterbacks played at different schools the year before. Just in one offseason, it’s clear how vital the portal is to a team’s success. Hopefully, the soon-to-be new full-time Athletics Director Beth Goetz recognizes that as well.
For the Hawkeyes, they need to hit the portal hard again. They won 10 games this year, but it wasn’t good enough. We all saw what happened in the Big Ten Championship. There’s a reason that Iowa is looking for a new offensive coordinator this offseason. Who are some new players that they can bring in as well? Here are the top positions Iowa should target in this offseason.
Wide receiver

Yeah, Iowa needs help at wide receiver badly. The unit’s just not good enough at the current moment, even if I truly believe that Kaleb Brown has star potential.
Iowa brought in some potential future playmakers this past portal season in Brown and Seth Anderson. Now, they need to bring in someone who can play immediately.
Even if you believe in some of the youngsters they have coming up through the ranks, this team desperately needs a veteran who can actually play the position. All of this only picked up steam with Diante Vines’ decision to enter the transfer portal.
