DII football’s final four are set to take the stage on Saturday, Dec. 9. While the reigning national runners-up — Colorado School of Mines — is still in the mix, nary a one of the four have claimed a DII football national championship. History will be made in 2023, and one of the Super Region champions will be making it.
TOURNAMENT CENTRAL:
DII football semifinals by the numbers (all stats per NCAA.org)
- 1 — Kutztown is the only school of the four remaining that has never been to the national semifinals before.
- 2 — Combined championship game appearances in 50 years of DII football among the final four teams standing
- 4 — All four schools remaining are in the top 10 in scoring defense: No. 2 Harding (10.92 points per game), No. 3 Colorado School of Mines (11.54), No. 4 Harding (11.79), and Kutztown (15.36).
- 7 — Defensive touchdowns scored by Harding, tied for most in DII. The Bisons are one of the most relentless and opportunistic defenses remaining in the field.
- 13-0 — Harding and Colorado School of Mines’ record heading into the semifinals. They are the final two undefeated teams in DII and should both win this week, it will be the first undefeated national championship showdown since Ferris State vs. Valdosta State, Part I in 2018.
- 15 — Fumbles recovered by Colorado School of Mines, tied for most in DII. The Orediggers are the only team remaining that is in the top 10 in this category.
- 50.5 — Colorado School of Mines points per game, the most in DII football this year and the only team to average 50-plus over the season thus far.
- 57.7 — Harding’s third-down conversion percentage, the best in DII football
- 402.3 — Harding’s rushing yards per game, the best in college football
