Wednesday was a huge punch in the gut for Florida football fans as their beloved Gators fell well short of expectations at the start of the early signing period.
Billy Napier and Co. saw not one, not two, but three blue-chip commits flip in the final hours, leaving him and his program eight premium players short of their tally back in early November. Not to mention the fact that the team also got a scare from a five-star in-state commit who delayed his decision before finally signing the dotted line at the end of the day.
The day before the start of the early signing period, the Orange and Blue were ranked No. 10 overall by the 247Sports composite with a total score of 272.65 points. After the disappointing showing, Florida found itself ranked No. 16 the following day with a 258.37 score — a significant drop from earlier estimations that had the Gators among the top three.
Napier’s squad is now nestled between the No. 15 Michigan Wolverines and No. 17 Texas A&M Aggies. The latter school has recently acquired two of Florida’s defensive coaches including Jay Bateman, who switched schools on Thursday.
The Gators now have 18 members of the 2024 class who have signed their letter thus far, breaking down into two five-star, nine four-star and seven three-star recruits.
