Brewer Named Duke’s Offensive Coordinator

DURHAM – Duke head football coach Manny Diaz announced Tuesday that Jonathan Brewer will join the Blue Devil gridiron program and serve as the offensive coordinator. Brewer will also coach Duke’s quarterbacks.
 
Brewer previously worked under Diaz at the University of Miami, where he spent two seasons (2020-21) as a senior offensive quality control coach.
 
He rejoins Diaz in Durham after serving a second stint on staff at Southern Methodist University as the quarterbacks coach for two seasons (2022-23). He was elevated his final year to co-offensive coordinator.

While in Dallas, Brewer helped the Mustangs to an 18-8 overall record and a 13-3 mark in American Athletic Conference play. SMU earned consecutive bowl invitations and claimed the 2023 American Athletic Conference title following a 26-14 victory over Tulane.

 

During his two seasons, the Mustangs’ offense ranked in the top-15 nationally in red zone offense, scoring offense and total offense. Additionally during his final year, SMU ranked in the top-25 in 11 major categories – fifth in first down offense (312), sixth in scoring offense (40.6) and passing yards per completion (14.82), ninth in red zone offense (.929) and tackles for loss allowed (3.77), 13th in sacks allowed (1.15), 14th in total offense (465.5), 16th in team passing efficiency (156.09), 19th in passing offense (285.1), 20th in turnovers lost (13) and 24th in fumbles lost (5). The Mustangs also ranked third in the country in scoring offense in the first half, trailing just Oregon and Oklahoma.
