Vanderbilt Football | Four Dores Playoff Bound

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Four former Vanderbilt football players are set to begin the path to Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas when the NFL Playoffs begin Saturday.

The NFC will feature a match-up of Commodores as Zach Cunningham and the Eagles face Justin Skule’s Buccaneers. Trent Sherfield will also be in action this weekend as Buffalo hosts Pittsburgh. Oren Burks and the 49ers earned a first-round bye.

Oren Burks – 49ers (first-round bye)

Burks has made 46 total tackles in 15 games this season while helping the 49ers to the best record in the NFC at 12-5. He capped the regular season with a season-best seven tackles and a sack as San Francisco dropped a 21-20 decision to the Rams. Burks and the Niners now await their second-round opponent at the conclusion of Wild Card Weekend, hosting the lowest-remaining seed in the NFC for the divisional round.

Zach Cunningham – Eagles (vs. Buccaneers) 

Cunningham has 85 tackles in his first season with the Eagles, helping Philadelphia to an 11-6 record and the fifth seed in the NFC. The Eagles visit Tampa Bay to open the playoffs on Monday (7:15 p.m. CT on ESPN/ABC/ESPN+). Cunningham has appeared in 13 games this season, hitting double-figures in tackles in three contests. He’s added a fumble recovery and defended four passes. He posted a season-high 13 tackles in Philly’s Oct. 1 win over the Commanders and most recently had five tackles in the regular season finale against the Giants.

Trent Sherfield – Bills (vs. Steelers)

Sherfield has appeared in all 17 games for the AFC East champions, who are the second seed in the AFC after going 11-6. Sherfield has recorded 11 receptions for 86 yards and a score this season while adding three tackles on special teams. He saved his best for Buffalo’s Week 18 win over the Dolphins to capture the division, making three catches for 24 yards and a touchdown in a 21-14 victory. 

Sherfield and the Bills host Pittsburgh Sunday at Noon CT on CBS.
