For the first time since the 2003-2004 New England Patriots, the Kansas City Chiefs become back-to-back Super Bowl Champions in an overtime thriller over the San Francisco 49ers out in the high-rolling desert of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Driven by a spirited performance from Patrick Mahomes, who would later be crowned Super Bowl MVP, the now three-time Super Bowl champion guided an offense that steadily found its footing over the course of the evening leading the Chiefs offense in passing (34/46 COMP, 333 YDS, 2 TDS, 1 INT) and rushing (9 ATT, 66 YDS). Mahomes would go on to find wide receiver Mecole Hardman (3 REC, 57 YDS) for his second touchdown throw to seal the deal with 00:12 left to play from 3 yards out.

After Kicker Harrison Butker sent Super Bowl LVIII to overtime with a 29-yard field goal, San Francisco proceeded to take possession to start the period and drove 66 yards to the Chiefs 9-yard line. The Chiefs would get the stop and force a 27-yard Jake Moody field goal thanks to incoming pressure from Chris Jones disrupting 49ers Quarterback Brock Purdy (23/38 COMP, 255 YDS, 1 TD) on 3rd & 4. That stop allowed the Chiefs to drive 75 yards to pay dirt which included an 8-yard run by Patrick Mahomes to convert a 4th & 1 at the KC 34.
After taking the majority of the momentum during a slow, defensively driven first half, the 49ers were held scoreless in the 3rd quarter thanks to three straight 3-and-outs coupled with a muffed punt off of the ankle of Darrell Luter.
