St. Louis Battlehawks Quarterback Signing Imminent

Some XFL Team Names Potentially Leak Prior To Announcement

Things are heating up in St. Louis, and big news is almost certainly imminent. Nick Tiano, just one of two quarterbacks listed on the Battlehawks roster, has been waived.

This leaves the former Green Bay Packer, Manny Wilkins, as the only quarterback left on the team. The implication of this move is obvious: The Battlehawks are on the verge of bringing in a new quarterback, most likely their next starter.

This theory is supported by a Tweet released by head coach Anthony Becht earlier today that teased a big announcement on the horizon—though it was retracted not long afterwards.

The general assumption is that last year’s starter, A.J. McCarron, will be making his return to the Battlehawks, a move actively craved by many in St. Louis. Alternatively, some fans have expressed an interest in signing the 2020 XFL phenom PJ Walker, and there are plenty more excellent quarterbacks in free agency. St. Louis’ success on and off the field in the last couple of seasons brings a lot of drawing power, and it’s almost certain that whoever the Battlehawks are about to bring in is the real deal.

Tiano was St. Louis’ backup for the majority of last season, though he did start Week 8 against Las Vegas in the wake of McCarron’s shoulder injury suffered against Houston in Week 7. Against Las Vegas, Tiano completed 19 passes for 194 yards, throwing for a touchdown to help St. Louis secure a critical win in what became the first overtime game in XFL history.
