Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon heads into 2024 looking to improve on a 4-13 campaign. While he has expectations for himself and the team in 2024, it is uncertain what exactly is expected of him.
Could he be Coach of the Year in 2024?
Betting odds from BetMGM have him in the middle of the pack in terms of winning the award.
The favorite to win Coach of the Year is Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh at +550. After that, Green Bay’s Matt LaFleur has the next-shortest odds at +800 and Atlanta’s Raheem Morris at +1000.
Gannon has +2200 or 22/1 odds.
Eleven coaches have shorter odds than Gannon. He is tied with Detroit’s Dan Campbell.
Winning Coach of the Year comes down to two factors — performance and expectations. The Cardinals were bad last year. They aren’t expected to be competitive yet in 2024.
In the case of Campbell, having won the NFC North and made it within a game of the Super Bowl, the expectations to win are already there. It will be tough to outperform them, which makes his odds longer than other coaches.
Campbell likely can’t see the Lions improve. Gannon isn’t expected to see the Cardinals improve enough.
Gannon, though, is a decent coach to bet on because great success would be surprising, and with quarterback Kyler Murray playing a full season, it is possible.
