Joel Klatt picks QB2 between Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels

Joel Klatt picks QB2 between Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels

The NFL Scouting Combine will descend on Indianapolis next week as prospects will get the chance to impress NFL teams ahead of the 2024 NFL draft in April. It’s the first big event before the draft and we will get to see prospects participate in drills as well.

Going into the combine, it’s clear that Caleb Williams is the top quarterback in this draft and the big battle will be for QB2 between North Carolina’s Drake Maye and LSU’s Jayden Daniels. All season long Maye has been considered the second-best quarterback in this class but Daniels’ Heisman season put him right there in the conversation.

And some analysts have even moved him ahead of Maye as QB2.

Joel Klatt released his top 5 quarterbacks for the draft and he has Maye as his second-best quarterback and here’s why:

“Drake Maye is as good as I’ve seen in a long, long time. Let me put it to you very simply: If it wasn’t for Caleb Williams, Drake Maye would be the slam dunk No. 1 pick in this draft, and I don’t think it’s that close,” claimed Klatt. “I think (Maye and Williams) are separated from the rest of the QB pack.”

“Don’t get bored with the fact we’ve known (Maye) is great for a long time…He’s closer to Caleb Williams than Jayden Daniels is to him,” said Klatt. “That top 2 is separated and the reason is ceiling and potential.”

That’s some high praise for Maye from Klatt. He even went as far as to compare him to Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, which would certainly make one team very happy.

Now, that’s just Klatt’s opinion and this combine will be a big opportunity for Maye to impress and show NFL teams why he should be one of the top players selected in April’s draft.
